A national event around science outreach and public engagement will be held in New York October 3-5, 2018. The meeting, hosted by RockEDU Science Outreach at The Rockefeller University, in collaboration with the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, will bring together a diverse set of voices to help strengthen the community of practice around outreach/engagement and to help clear the path for ideas sharing, troubleshooting, and collaboration among a network of stakeholders.
Themes to be addressed during this meeting include:
- Understanding effective practices for science engagement.
- Sharing strategies and limitations of program/activity evaluation.
- Identifying ways to scale and sustain outreach/engagement in communities.
There is no fee to attend and travel support is available.
Because it is an unconference, planners are working to build a flexible infrastructure that can be shaped by meeting attendees themselves. Various stakeholders (i.e. outreach practitioners, scientists/engineers, community leaders, legislators, funders, media) are encouraged to submit an application to ensure that there is representation from multiple contexts. Visit the unconference website for more information or contact jgarbarino@rockefeller.edu if you have any questions.
