$10K for Projects that Promote Community Health, Quality of Life
The Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon is now accepting proposals for community projects that utilize physical fitness activities to improve quality of life in the community, promote healthy eating or living, support current programs promoting physical activity (i.e. supplies, equipment, materials, or other similar items), or a combination of the above. A Blade of Grass: $20K Fellowship for Socially Engaged Art
The $20,000 ABOG fellowship supports socially engaged projects that promote art as a catalyst for social change; projects that feature artists in leadership roles; dialogue-based projects that emphasize active and sustainable partnerships with communities; and projects in which artists engage community members as equal partners in co-creating solutions to problems at the local, national, or international level. Rather than focusing on products such as exhibitions, theater productions, or objects for display, funded projects should be community-based and include co-created outcomes and/or the process of community engagement.

Abe Fellowship for Multidisciplinary Research on Topics of Global Concern
The Social Science Research Council’s Abe Fellowships program seeks to foster the development of a new generation of researchers who are interested in policy-relevant topics of long-range importance. Applications are welcome from scholars and nonacademic research professionals for research relevant to any one or any combination of the following four themes:
1) Threats to Personal, Societal, and International Security
Especially welcome topics include food, water, and energy insecurity; pandemics; climate change; disaster preparedness, prevention, and recovery; and conflict, terrorism, and cyber security.
2) Growth and Sustainable Development
Especially welcome topics include global financial stability, trade imbalances and agreements, adjustment to globalization, climate change and adaptation, and poverty and inequality.
3) Social, Scientific, and Cultural Trends and Transformations
Especially welcome topics include aging and other demographic change, benefits and dangers of reproductive genetics, gender and social exclusion, expansion of STEM education among women and under-represented populations, migration, rural depopulation and urbanization, impacts of automation on jobs, poverty and inequality, and community resilience.
4) Governance, Empowerment, and Participation
Especially welcome topics include challenges to democratic institutions, participatory governance, human rights, the changing role of NGO/NPOs, the rise of new media, and government roles in fostering innovation.

NIH: Innovative Measurement Tools for Community Engaged Research Efforts (R01)
Community engaged research methodologies, such as community-based participatory, community-based, and practice-based research are regarded as valid approaches to prevent disease and promote health. A collaborative effort between community partners and researchers to engage in research that benefits community is a central tenet of this approach.
The federal Clinical and Translational Science Awards initiative from NIH that supports community engaged researchers seeks to support a range of infrastructure support activities with Innovative, valid, and reliable tools that effectively measure engagement to enhance the scientific efforts that use community based research methodologies.
Specific areas of research interest include, but are not limited to those listed below.
- Develop and test tools that measure trust between partners in engagement efforts
- Develop and test tools that measure capacity/readiness for research efforts
- Develop and test tools to measure successful partnership/collaboration in engagement efforts
- Develop reliable and valid tools that can be used in measuring community engaged research efforts that impact individual outcomes such as trust, capacity, empowerment, and collaboration
- Use established statistical procedures to test existing or newly developed instruments
- Develop and test instruments that measure the success or failure of partnership efforts
- Apply existing tools in measuring community engaged research efforts
- Develop and test scientific measures of sustainability for health improvement programs
- Develop and test scientific outcome measures related to improving health disparities
