Imagining America Webinar – Creating Spaces for Dialogue Across Disciplines & Cultures: Toward a Theory of Internationally Engaged Scholarship
During this webinar participants will analyze the civic engagement pathways of researchers from inside and outside America in an effort to see how the principles of what American scholars consider publicly engaged research and creative practice, are being enacted in research sites across the globe. The purpose of this ongoing project is to focus on finding ways of connecting Imagining America (IA) with a network of higher education and research institutions that hold a commitment and passion for social responsibility and civic engagement as it impacts education, research and service for community development overseas. The webinar will take place on October 29, 2015.
American Chemical Society Symposium – Fundamentals of Chemistry Outreach Education: From Program Design to Assessment
This symposium will provide a unique forum to exchange ideas on innovative approaches to the design, funding, delivery and assessment of chemistry outreach education and service learning programs. Speakers from all sectors of the CHED community are invited, including 2- and 4-year faculty, high school educators, current and former NSF GK-12 awardees, and students at the undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral levels. Topic areas are wide open, including college and high school programs and courses, green chemistry, hands-on activities and project-based learning, family science programs, professional development programs for high school educators, participatory action research, partnerships with industry, and program assessment. Deadline for submissions is October 26, 2015.
International Communication Association Applied Research Award
The Applied Research Award honors a scholar or group of scholars who has or have produced a systematic and outstanding body of research that addresses a significant communication problem of relevance to a public representing one or more groups of stakeholders relevant to a division(s) or interest group(s) of ICA. Individual or collaborative applied research programs which include community engagement, group and organizational interventions, or advocacy and/or political policy work at the local, national, international and/or global levels are all appropriate candidates for this award. The researcher(s) may have implemented the studies or collaborative interdisciplinary work in association with or independent from a government or established institution, possibly to refine or to criticize current policy or communication practice. Deadline for 2016 nominations is January 31, 2016.
The Open Society Fellowship was founded in 2008 to support individuals pursuing innovative and unconventional approaches to fundamental open society challenges. The fellowship funds work that will enrich public understanding of those challenges and stimulate far-reaching and probing conversations within the Open Society Foundations and in the world. A fellowship project might identify a problem that has not previously been recognized, develop new policy ideas to address familiar problems, or offer a new advocacy strategy. Full-time fellows will receive a stipend of $80,000 or $100,000. Letters of inquiry are due January 4, 2016.
Echoing Green Fellowship Programs
Echoing Green Fellowships are offered to support emerging leaders working to bring about positive social change. Fellows may receive up to $90,000 during their first two years.
- The Global Fellowship is a program for smart leaders who are deeply connected to the needs and potential solutions that may work best for their communities. Any emerging social entrepreneur from any part of the world working to disrupt the status quo may apply. Deadline to apply is November 17, 2015.
- The Black Male Achievement (BMA) Fellowship is dedicated to improving the life outcomes of black men and boys in the United States. BMA Fellows generate new ideas and best practices in the areas of education, family, and work, such as initiatives related to fatherhood, mentoring, college preparatory programs, community-building, career and economic opportunities, communities, and philanthropic leadership. Deadline to apply is November 17, 2015.
- The Climate Fellowship is specifically targeted for next-generation social entrepreneurs committed to working on innovations in mitigation and adaptation to climate change. The full spectrum of responses to the climate crisis will be considered. Deadline to apply is November 17, 2015.
Environmental Solutions for Communities Grant Program
Wells Fargo and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) seek to promote sustainable communities through Environmental Solutions for Communities by supporting highly-visible projects that link economic development and community well-being to the stewardship and health of the environment. Approximately $2,460,000 is available nationwide for 2016 projects. Deadline to submit a proposal is December 10, 2015.
