The Mission
International field-work engagement provides a platform for faculty, undergraduate students and graduate students to engage in international research, teaching, and learning experiences. Faculty engage in cutting-edge research on global challenges integral to our agricultural and food systems. Students participate in experiential learning opportunities, applied research projects, and faculty-led study courses throughout the world, such as those offered by the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (CASNR). These experiences often combine academic activities with hands-on engagement during the summer, mini-term, an entire semester or academic year.
The Partners
International partners include institutions and communities from across the globe, such as the National University of Lesotho, Health Talents International in Guatemala, the Ministry of Agriculture in Jamaica, and many others. University of Tennessee, Knoxville partners include UT AgResearch, UT Extension, and CASNR, as well as the colleges of Engineering and Arts and Sciences.
Impact on UT
UT’s partnership with international organizations allows students and faculty to develop and implement field-scale research in different agricultural systems across the world. Undergraduate students broaden their horizons and enhance their chances of success in an increasingly global environment. UT graduate students, both domestic and international, work together in research collaborations on global issues including soil fertility, climate change, food insecurity, and water conservation.
Impact on Community
UT students and faculty have collaborated with local communities across the world in a knowledge exchange that collectively improves the lives and well-being of the local people. New technologies have enhanced local expertise to empower these communities to improve their sanitation, cooking stoves, vegetable production, and conservation agriculture practices.
