Full-time graduate students can apply for the Michael Sullivan Diversity scholarship fund, which provides $500 of financial assistance to support research and community based projects with a focus on multiculturalism. Research proposal should validate emerging methods of assessment, diagnosis, and screening of mental health concerns affecting racially/ethnically diverse individuals, and examine and evaluate behavior, lifestyles, health needs and health disparities of diverse individuals. Studies may include aging issues in adults who are racially/ethnically diverse, explore issues in multicultural counseling, develop a cultural framework for counseling specific populations, i.e., the able-bodied, LBGT, multiracial individuals, design a community project which decreases prejudice within a targeted population, or implement a culturally sensitive psychological service intervention within an existing group or agency. The Russell Sage Foundation’s program on Social Inequality supports research on the social, economic, political, and labor market consequences of rising economic inequalities in the U.S. The Foundation is interested in research that is broadly related to the causes and consequences of increased economic inequality. Awards are available for research assistance, data acquisition, data analysis, and investigator time for conducting research and writing up results. Applications should limit budget requests to a two-year period, with a maximum of $150,000 per project. Research projects should broaden current understanding of the causes and consequences of rising economic inequality. Priority will be given to projects that use innovative data or methodologies to address important questions about inequality. Deadline for LOIs is January 16, 2015.
The Five Star & Urban Waters Restoration Grant Program seeks to develop community capacity to sustain local natural resources for future generations by providing modest financial assistance to diverse local partnerships for wetland, riparian, forest and coastal habitat restoration, urban wildlife conservation, stormwater management as well as outreach, education and stewardship. Projects should focus on water quality, watersheds and the habitats they support. The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation is looking for projects that include partnerships with up to five or more public or private entities, on-the-ground restoration and planning efforts, environmental outreach and education training, have measurable results and works towards sustainability. Select funding partners for this grant list geographic priorities. Awards range from $20,000 to $50,000 for 40-50 selected projects. Proposals due February 3, 2015.
The Spencer Foundation supports high-quality investigations of education through its research programs and is dedicated to strengthening and renewing the educational research community through its fellowship and training programs and related activities. Through its New Civics Small Grants Program, the foundation is accepting research proposals that ask critical questions about how education can more effectively contribute to the civic development of young people. Of special interest are improved understandings of the avenues for and impediments to civic learning and civic action among young people who do not attend college, who reside in marginalized communities, who are recent immigrants or immigrants of different legal statuses, or who are less economically privileged. The program awards grants of up to $50,000. Proposals due February 5, 2015.
The Public Scholar program supports well-researched books in the humanities intended to reach a broad readership. Although humanities scholarship can be specialized, the humanities also strive to engage broad audiences in exploring subjects of general interest. They seek to deepen our understanding of the human condition as well as current conditions and contemporary problems. The Public Scholar program aims to encourage scholarship that will be of broad interest and have lasting impact. Such scholarship might present a narrative history, tell the stories of important individuals, analyze significant texts, provide a synthesis of ideas, revive interest in a neglected subject, or examine the latest thinking on a topic.
