Community Engagement Incentive Grant: Sally Parish

Leadership and Service Ambassador Funding

Sally Parish

2012 Outreach grant winner Sally Parish, Director of the Center for Leadership & Service, has submitted her students’ final project report for UT’s Leadership & Service Ambassadors (LSAs), a group of student leadership and service educators dedicated to serving the campus and community as a resource group.

LSAs work with fellow students to promote leadership and partnering principles.  They also collaborate with community partners to develop student service opportunities, and carefully document the mutual benefit and impact of their work.

“I feel as if I can serve the greater community and make a positive difference in the lives of others. This has resulted in me feeling that UT is a home, and having stronger relationships with those in the community and on campus.” –2012-2013 Student LSA

Working with SEEED – Socially Equal Energy Efficient Development

LSAs present programs both on and off campus, and strive to serve community needs with student service placements developed in full consultation with community partners.

In 2012-13,  LSAs provided 64 programs on topics such as diversity, teambuilding, and conflict management.  LSAs also presented three workshops for their fellow students: the Servant Leadership Academy, the Social Justice Academy, and the Executive Leadership Academy.

In addition to their program activity, LSAs coordinated 95 community service opportunities for 410 different UT students, working in partnership to do so with 33 Knoxville community agencies.

“The Center for Leadership & Service has helped us complete various needed projects at the Knoxville Zoo. As a nonprofit, we could not get a lot of our projects done without groups like these. Requests are simple and response is timely. The groups have always done a great job. Volunteers also help us greatly with Boo! at the Zoo, an event that would be impossible without volunteers.” – 2012-2013 Community Partner

The Center for Leadership & Service works with LSA’s to assure that all their work incorporates High-Impact Community Engagement Practices (HICEPs) protocol to assure the mutual benefit and efficacy of their work.

The Leadership & Service Ambassadors

LSAs followed up with community partners and UT students with surveys and post-assessments for all programs and workshops.
